The Early Days
Larry Aberman decided at a very young age that a career in music was what he wanted. At the age of 11 he was a student of Drummer Armand Santarelli in Philadelphia.
At 15 Larry moved to New York City and quickly enrolled in the high school of music and art beginning a life long study of music with Jazz tutor Justin DiCioccio.
Studying percussion at the eastman school. While there he recorded the Grammy nominated CD “Carnival” with Wynton Marsalis – Larry also played drums in the Eastman Jazz Ensemble, this is when he won an award for the best Jazz Soloist from Downbeat Magazine.
When he got back to New York he wasn’t sure what would be round the corner workwise – whether it would be performing with the Mark Morris Dance Company, recording with David Mann and Jeff Beal or touring with Pierce Turner and Grayson Hugh. He continued his Drum Lessons at the well known Drummers Collective with teachers such as Kenward Dennard.
Later on a musical association flourished with producers Nile Rogers, Russ Titelman and Bernard Edwards. Album work with David Lee Roth, The Vaughan Brothers, Lionel Richie, Adam Ant and others, he also performed with Howard Hewitt, Miki Howard, Dianne Reeves, Nick Lowe and John Hiatt.
After a long tour with the band Foreigner, Larry decided to check out the Los Angeles area for work and around a year later he made the move there.
Enjoying the LA weather as well as his career in the world of drums and percussion, Larry began composing and recording music. He recorded with dozens of artists including New Radicals and John Taylor (Duran Duran). Performing live with Hiram Bullock, Ivan Neville and studio sessions with Marcus Miller, Dean Parks, and lots of others.
Touring with Pianist Joe Sample between 2000 and 2003, Larry recorded Joe’s album (The Pecan Tree). Larry also toured with singer/songwriter Jonatha Brook recording an album for her entitled (Steady Pull).
Larry currently resides in Las Vegas performing with Cirque du Soleil in a new production at the New York, New York Hotel and Casino. Continuing to travel to LA for session work and records jingles as well as other projects from his home studio.
